Random is what chance wants (also in roulette)

Roulette is a game of chance.

The dealer puts the roulette ball into play. The ball spins in circles, slowing down over time, descending past the rhombuses (which it often bumps into) and finally landing in one of the 37 (European roulette wheel) or 38 (American roulette wheel) roulette pockets .

Then the number is called out loud by the dealer and the lucky players get their winnings paid out.

Roulette is a game of pure chance and any hope of gaining an advantage at this game was buried when the new (now relatively old) computers took control of the roulette wheel. The hopes of roulette players to find a biased roulette wheel (or “wrong wheel” or “crooked wheel”) or a biased number are the hopes of little kids who want to be superheroes when they grow up. That will not happen. I think the biased wheel is an issue that doesn’t exist in the modern game.

However, the fact that roulette is a pure game of chance doesn’t stop players from strategizing to beat the game. Roulette players look for ways to win, even if overcoming the house edge of the casino is not possible in the long or short term.

It’s fun to listen to the players when they talk about their strategies. Some strategies are interesting, some are clumsy, and some basically consist of just tossing the chips in and hoping for the best.

I dedicate this article to roulette players who are persistently trying to beat the game with strategies of their own making. Casinos should reward these players for their efforts.
