How to play Spanish 21 – basics and tips

What is Spanish 21?

Spanish 21 was released in 1995. Since then, the game has been popular in both land-based casinos and online casinos. This is a blackjack variant, as already mentioned.

In this variant of blackjack, all 10-value cards are removed. Because of this, the game strategy is a bit different compared to the traditional variant.

While a traditional deck has 52 cards, the Spanish 21 game has 48 cards. The object of the game is for the player’s hand to become higher than the dealer’s hand.

So, the object of the game remains the same as in traditional blackjack. If the player wins the 21 value with a hand, then he beats the dealer hand.

Spanish 21 game rules

• Spanish 21 Decks: Unlike the traditional blackjack version, the Spanish 21 game has 48 cards in the deck as cards with tens are removed. The fact that you are playing with a deck of 48 affects the player’s chances of winning. The house edge increases, by about 2%. For this reason, Spanish 21 Blackjack has special strategies when playing, as well as extreme rules and unusual bonus offers.

• There is also the possibility that the player doubles his winning hand. You make the second bet, which corresponds to the first one, and you get another card. This is called a double down. In Spanish 21 Blackjack you can double down with any number of cards – not necessarily the first 2.

• Double Down Surrender feature in Spanish 21 means you lose your first bet but get your second.

Spanish 21 side bets

Side bets are also available to players at Spanish 21. These represent a chance to earn additional winnings. Side bet stakes are fairly low. One should place the wager in addition to the usual wager and do so before the cards are dealt.

The profit made from side bets does not depend on the outcome of the game. The blackjack side bets usually have a high house edge. It would therefore be advisable to stick to side bets that have the lowest house edge.

There are several Blackjack side bets that are quite popular among players such as 21 + 3, Perfect Pair, Royal Match, etc. The Blackjack side bets solve the fun factor and offer the opportunity to achieve higher profits.

Match the Dealer

Match the Dealer is a type of side bet offered at Spanish 21. In order to place this bet, players must place a regular Spanish 21 wager.

This side bet is won by players if one or both of their cards match the dealer’s up card (e.g. a jack matches a jack). Match the dealer betting is done by placing your bet in the match the dealer circle.

Five major payouts are possible:

• 2 matching matches are paid 24-1,

• 1 match mismatch and 1 match match paid 15-1,

• 1 matching match pays 12-1,

• 2 mismatched matches are paid 6-1,

• 1 mismatch pays 3-1.
